Sanctions designation — transaction must be blocked or frozen
SECO's Syria sanctions programme, administered by Switzerland's State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, designates 375 individuals and entities subject to asset freezes and transaction blocks, and is essential for trade finance screening involving Syrian counterparties or goods routed through Swiss channels.
Swiss SECO Consolidated Sanctions List is maintained by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), the primary authority for implementing sanctions in Switzerland. Since January 2003, the sanctions regime operates under the Federal Act on the Implementation of International Sanctions (Embargo Act/EmbA). Switzerland implements UN sanctions and can adopt additional measures aligned with its main trading partners, particularly the EU.
The list includes individuals, groups, and companies subject to Swiss embargoes, with detailed identifying information in the annexes to various ordinances. These are continuously updated by the Federal Council. SECO provides an online search application for screening against sanctioned persons and entities. Since December 2023, an improved XML format has been available for automated compliance systems.
